The Specified Skilled Worker (特定技能制度, Tokutei Ginou Seido) program in Japan is designed to address labor shortages in specific industries by allowing foreign workers with certain skills to work in Japan. There are two types of Specified Skilled Worker visas:
1. Specified Skilled Worker (i): This visa allows workers to stay in Japan for up to five years. It does not permit family accompaniment. It is aimed at individuals with skills in fields like construction, agriculture, and nursing care.
2. Specified Skilled Worker (ii): This visa is for those with more advanced skills and allows for a longer stay and family accompaniment. It targets industries such as construction and shipbuilding.
Both categories require applicants to pass skill and Japanese language tests. The program aims to ensure a stable supply of skilled labor while providing foreign workers with opportunities to gain experience in Japan.
